Are you a little geek at heart? Do you love all those widgets and whats-its that geekify your computer? Chances are your a Konfabulator-ite at heart, and if so there's grand news for you.
Konfabulator-ites unite for you've been acquired by Yahoo!.
The folks at Konfabulator are really excited about this, and here's the big reason why... they have free espresso on campus! That's right, no more $80 a week Starbucks bills! That's their joke, not mine. I'm sure it has a lot more to do with a few more coins jingling in a few pockets at the top of the food chain. Anytime a start-up can find it's way into the bigger picture on it's own or through aquisition, it's certainly reason for investors and those with stock options to celebrate. Yahoo! That's my pun, not theirs.
According to Arlo Rose - Ed Voas - Perry Clarke: Another reason we're excited about it, is the very cool big picture. See, when we first thought of Konfabulator, one of the key pieces was accessing internet content. Well guess what Yahoo has boat-loads of? Yup. And what's really great is that they're starting to open it up to everyone in a format that's useable outside the traditional browser, as XML feeds. Guess how they're going to provide real-world examples of how to use this stuff. Yup... Konfabulator. So really, depending on how you look at it, we're taking over Yahoo! We're going to make it so the best way to access their data is via slick little Widgets.
I spent a good hour looking through the 646 widgets on the Konfabulator widget web site: http://www.widgetgallery.com/ ... it's mind numbing actually, how many gadgets I could add to my computer for absolutely no other reason than ... I can. Still, it's a very cool little app and it has huge potential for Yahoo and the sharing of information right onto the user's desktop.
Added bonus for the Konfabulator fans is that this little app has a lot of Macintosh widgets ... reminds of the old days of Mac when we had all these little geeky apps and thought we were hot shit ... as Martha would say, It's a good thing.
Maybe Wild Wolf needs a little XML Konfabulator of it's own ... oh, the possibilities! <drool>
