Text Links for Better SEO

Let's talk a little more about using Text Links for better SEO placement becuase it's a very relevant tool that you have at your disposal and something that you should consider exploring.

Working with text links to help with your SEO rankings is going to involve a good solid chunk of time. So, don't think that this is an easy solution because it's not, but it is solid ... at least it is for now. Here's some search term improvement techniques for you to take into account:

1. Link Exchanges

Used to be everyone was exchanging links with anyone else who give them a link. Then Google danced and bamm ... doing that will get you lower placement. So, you have to be smart and ONLY exchange links with other domains that are relevant to your site's topics. Do that and you will see your domain move up the ranks.

2. Billboards

This is something kind of new and is working for now until Google bans the companies offering this service. I'd say use it while it works my friend!

Sites using Billboards are noticing significant rank increases. One site recorded the following...

Over the last 3 months, we have added about 20 unique billboards ... We did about 2 per week, and every week we would see position moves of 1 - 2 positions. This is an extremely effective tool because it gives you relevant backlink content on different IP's. Take the time to write good article/news stories and plug your company or product. This technique will pay off. Don't believe me? pick an obscure term without competition, and put up 2 - 5 billboards using the term as anchor text through-out your BB's and you will see position moves within 4 weeks.

The use of Billboards is currently a very good way to get your website relevant positioning in a shorter period of time and you can do so for reasonable fees. You only need to pay for Billboard space on another's IP for 30 days, by then the search engine will have found you. Make sure the IP is spidered by all the major search engines regularly. After 30 days, you can remove your page and go on to the next IP. Keep doing this and you will build a repository of text rich backlinks to your own domain. Very yummy search engine food!

3. Text Link Advertising

Text link ads are very affordable for those not wanting to dedicate all the time it takes to getting relevant backlinks. Okay, here's what I think is the best strategy with regards to buying text links. Most likely that PR8 website isn't going to get you any higher placement than the PR4-PR6 will. That's my opinion, others will disagree. My own testing is showing Google really doesn't pay much attention to their own PR system ... who knew?!

So, buy links that are PR4-6 and don't pay over $25 for them ... unless of course they happen to be mine ... lol. Here again, I'd recommend you use Linkworth and use their set of tools to determine the worth of any link you might be considering ... those tools will even help you with domains that aren't in the Linkworth repository ... hint, hint!

These types of one-way links will really help your placement. If you can get one-way links from other sources for free, go for it and make sure they have better PR than you do!

4. Content Development

Well now here's a novel idea, the more content you ad to your website, then better your rankings will be ... and go one step further, you must do so on a consistant basis ... like every two weeks ad a new page.

Ad pages with 250-500 words of relevant content and relevant links.

And, this is really important ... make sure all your webpages have different content by at least 40%. Google is so smart it actually knows if you've got the same page up on the domain ... and it knows if you've got the same domain mirrored on other domains.  You have to do the work!

5. Menu Structure

Make sure the search engines can easily spider every page on your website. I prefer to hard code all my links ... including the domain name info. Taking short-cuts only hurts you.

Make sure you use keywords in your menu links and make sure the search engines can easily follow your links from the top level to the second their third levels.

6. Website SEO

Use the H1, H2 tages and relevant keywords through out the site. Keep keyword density around 2-5% ... going over will cause you to drop in the ranks. I speak from experience on that one.

7. Schedule Regular Updates

Like I said, you must consistently add new content to your website  to keep the search engines well feed and happy. You must get down and dirty and do this part, if you don't ... those purchased links aren't going to help you get all the way there.

8. Hurry Up and Wait

It takes time to make all these things happen and with each step you have to sit back and see what result it had, if good then you step again. It's like a chess game ... really think about your next move and you can get to the top.

And while you're waiting, put up a page that offers your viewers text links and graphical links back to your website ... create a "link to us" page. It's free! And, if your website is interesting, you'd be surprised how many people will link to you as a result.

The Truth about Search Engine Optimization

http://www.articlecity.com/articles/writing/article_500.shtml

by: Bobbie Grennier

While the basics of Search Engine Optimization or SEO are pretty much textbook, it isn't the textbooks that you're competing with, it's the competition ... who within the most competative markets make it almost impossible to get to that search engine position of being number one. Discovering the Truth about Search Engine Optimization will require an analysis of every factor of optimization.

Professional SEO

Profession Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is more than simply understanding the goal of a website. The real SEO Professional, or real 'Search Engine Optimizer', will do extensive query-based keyword research because they know professional optimization needs a strong keyword foundation.

SEO professionals ask the all important question ... Who is the "target audience" or the "target market" ... and then, they work to create a website that brings their content to that audience through the search engines.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) involves:

  • Optimizing every page's page titles, meta tags, attributes, anchor text and more.
  • Theming of the primary domain, sub-domains and supporting web properties (such as blogs, forums and companion websites).
  • Content is king ... and paramount to good optimization.
  • Search engine friendly GUI navigation (internal linking strategy).
  • A must have 'inbound link' building strategy (external links coming in).

The professional SEO (search engine optimization) knows that if you want to be found in the top of the search results for a competitive keyword term, you have to cover all your search engine optimization basics and more. That means both, exceptional website on-page and external off-page SEO, as well as a fully comprehensive link strategy.

Professional SEO Company

Any Professional SEO worth hiring understands that effective SEO (search engine optimization) constant continuing education because the search engine algorithms and the rules search engines use to position a web page within the search engine results page (serp) are always changing. The search engine most challenging to the SEO professional is Google. Here's Google's tips on things to look for in an SEO company:

  • Be wary of SEO firms that send you email out of the blue.
  • No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.
  • Be careful if a company is secretive or won't clearly explain what they intend to do.
  • You should never have to link to an SEO.
  • Some SEOs may try to sell you the ability to type keywords directly into the browser address bar.
  • Choose wisely.
  • Be sure to understand where the money goes.
  • Talk to many SEOs, and ask other SEOs if they would recommend the firm you're considering.
  • Make sure you're protected legally.

Professional SEO Strategy and Conversion

The truly Professional SEO and Search Engine Optimization Company understands that there are other considerations to be kept in mind.

For example, a website must not only be optimized for search engine spider algorithms, but it also has to remain optimized for the visitor as well. Ranking number one in all the major search engines is what gets the visitors to your website, but then the website must convert those visitors into actual sales.

Professional SEO is like Royalty

If content is king, then website design is queen. The combination of the two, if done correctly, will produce results for both your search engine rankings and your revenue. While keyword location, weight (absolute and relative), density, proximity, frequency, keyword targeting ... is a important part of the puzzle, how the code for the website is created and the linking strategies are equally considered royalty in the world of the professional optimizer. The knowledge of how best to accomplish that is always changing and that's why a real SEO professional who is on top of the trends, can be worth gold to the success of your business.

Yahoo Search Engine

Guess I dropped the ball here, I didn't think it was going to matter too much ... but I was wrong. On July 20, 2005, Yahoo launched a new search index. Turns out, Yahoo's new changes to their search engine's algorythms is pretty much comprable to the famous Google Florida event a few years ago.

Many websites just disappeared off the face of Yahoo all together, while others found themselves only partially indexed, and others still who were never in the rankings, now find themselves at the top. Yahoo's search results almost look like Google's search results ... and that sucks!

I hate Google's search results. I never get what I want from them in a search. That's why I used to use Yahoo faithfully. Sadly, both search engines now yeild almost the same results.

Holding out hope ... maybe Yahoo will continue to tweak their results because frankly we don't need two Googles. Writing SEO for Yahoo's search engine has a whole new face now!

    Backlink Analyzer Tool

    C Class Backlink Analyzer Tool

This is a must have SEO tool for those of you who are involved with any type of Search Engine Optimization work. The C Class Backlink Analyzer Tool makes it very simple for you to understand the difference between backlinks and quality backlinks. While both help your SEO rankings, clearly it's the quality backlinks that do the most for you. The team at WeBuildPages explain this tool this way:

Why is viewing C Class IP's important you ask?

Most people are drawn in to viewing the sheer number of backlinks to a website (either by using google's link: command, or by using Yahoo's link: or linkdomain: command.

The problem with trying to put weight on the sheer number of backlinks is that many of those backlinks might be coming from just a few websites. Things like site-wide links, or links from many pages of 1 website can skew many peoples perception of what a site really has as far as "votes"

A deeper analysis of backlinks can show the number of websites, not just web pages.

The point we're trying to make is that having 1000 backlinks, coming from only 3 websites:
Site A links to site D on 500 pages.
Site B links to site D on 300 pages.
Site C links to site D on 200 pages.
Equals 1000 backlinks from 3 websites.

This is not equal to a site with 100 links from 100 websites. The bet is that the site with 100 links from 100 websites gets more "Website Votes", and may perform better in the search rankings.

Often people call us and say that they want hundreds, or thousands, of links. This is a misconception, not only in so far as "doability", but also in the fact that they don't need that many links, and that the trick is that you want links over a period of time (but that's another article).

What do your competitors really have as far as votes? The tool on this page will help to show you.

This tool should in no way be considered 100% accurate. We work with the best information we can get, and present it for you to give you another view of backlinks. If you enjoyed this tool, you might also want to try Link Harvester.

    Is SEO Ethical?

I've been pondering the question of whether or not there is an ethical SEO company out there. Before you all ping me to tell me you're the one, let me stop you. Clearly there has to be ethical companies out there, but damn they're hard to find in a sea full of scammers.

I'm not looking for an SEO company, so don't solicit me because I don't have work for you. I can do my own SEO work just fine, but recently I did try to outsource some work to an SEO company that gave a 100% appearance of being ethical and credible. Guess what, appearances aren't everything ... they might mean nothing.

Yeah, it looks like I got ripped off ... me ... who knows better! I outsourced some SEO writing pieces first of this year and the guy who took the work ... ie. took the money ... isn't returning emails ... phone calls ... I'd have to say I got NO return on my investment. That really ticks me off! I mean if this can happen to me, I'm wondering how many innocent website owners are getting scammed daily.

And by-the-way, I hope the SEO smuck who I'm referring to is reading this post because I just want to say ... SHAME ON YOU!!! You put up blogs and websites that tell the world how credible and knowledgeable you are in the SEO world ... shame, shame, shame ... you fakers! Forkers! Fokers! F-word-ers!

While pondering the topic of SEO ethics, I found myself reading Google's Google Information for Webmasters ... more specifically Search Engine Optimizers. I'm going to borrow heavily from Google on this topic of SEO and ethics.

Here's Google's tips on things to look for in an SEO company:

    • Be wary of SEO firms that send you email out of the blue
    • No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google
    • Be careful if a company is secretive or won't clearly explain what they intend to do
    • You should never have to link to an SEO
    • Some SEOs may try to sell you the ability to type keywords directly into the browser address bar
    • Choose wisely
    • Be sure to understand where the money goes
    • Talk to many SEOs, and ask other SEOs if they would recommend the firm you're considering
    • Make sure you're protected legally

I like the "Choose wisely" tip ... gee, ya think?! And, yet ... my own experience goes to show that there is no such thing as choosing wisely. I know  this company I hired is legally a business and for all purposes, is viable on paper. So, even that check might not mean you've protected yourself. Ah, but their last suggestion to "Make sure you're protected legally" ... that's the one my friends that we most often don't do. I didn't. Can we all say dumb ass?! You must get contracts in place. Funny, I do believe that's what I was communicating when "said company" stopped communicating. A little late on my part. Moral of the story ... do as I say, not as I do ... er, did.

Other things to look out for from SEO companies:

      • owns shadow domains
      • puts links to their other clients on doorway pages
      • offers to sell keywords in the address bar
      • doesn't distinguish between actual search results and ads that appear in search results
      • guarantees ranking, but only on obscure, long keyword phrases you would
        get anyway
      • operates with multiple aliases or falsified WHOIS info
      • gets traffic from "fake" search engines, spyware, or scumware
      • has had domains removed from Google's index or is not itself listed in Google

I'm sure this is a dumb question and I should already know the answer, I just never thought I'd needed to know ... but, how do you know if a domain has been removed from Google?

And, my favorite part of their tips on SEO (un)ethical companies ... hey smuck, are you listening? ... is how to report them to the FTC. Let me post that here for you:

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) handles complaints about deceptive or unfair business practices. To file a complaint, visit: http://www.ftc.gov/ and click on "File a Complaint Online", call 1-877-FTC-HELP, or write to:

      Federal Trade Commission
      CRC-240
      Washington, D.C. 20580

If your complaint is against a company in another country, please file it at http://www.econsumer.gov/.

This issue of SEO ethics isn't anything new, as I'm sure you all are aware of, but from time-to-time we all need to be reminded ... that's "we" the ethical webmasters and SEO companies ... that there are less than honorable SEO companies out there taking full advantage of us and our client base in every way imaginable. You really have to do you homework on these companies because at face value they put on a damn good show.

I like what Salon.com had to say about "When Internet marketing goes sour" ... calling for some justice to these thieves of innocence. Of course you can always report them to Google or the other search engines and you will be heard.

    Google Rankings

I thought I'd pass on some Google information and the results of some of the experiments I've been running. Your input back is greatly appreciated too.

Well, here's what I did. I took a bunch of my Wild Wolf business domains, all related to the same topic and gave them all the exact same information, then took them live. Now, some were pre-sandbox days and some were brand new. So, I had to gift the spider bots with links to follow for the new sites, and follow they did.

It took about 3-4 weeks to see the results, but here's what I noticed. The .info sites ... new or old ... are getting a higher PR by about 2 points. New .info got PR while new .com, .net and .org did not.

I had sites getting decent PR that were still coming up under their keywords at all. Google had indexed them, but clearly they were still in the sandbox. I'm thinking that PR doesn't count for a whole lot yet where Google is concerned. I think they're experimenting with it too to be honest.

Also, I had one site, that wasn't part of this test group, go from zero to Google's top 10 in its keywords ... number 4 to be exact. It was a fairly new site and it took the site about three months to be released from Google's sandbox. I was blown away that it went to the top like that. So, now I'm wondering what will happen as sites are released from the sandbox, will they also get a jump like that? Perhaps it's because this was a news site and I gave it new content on a regular basis.

Well, that's my insights into the world of Google for now. I'd love to hear what's happening with your experiments ... observations ... etc.
